Judith Rubenstein
Attorney/Mediator
“Judith's creativity, ability and persistence can find a bridge where any resolution of a dispute seems hopeless.”
“Judith grabs onto the core facts and issues of a case and doesn’t let go until it’s settled."
“In spite of fractious parties and recalcitrant adjusters, Judith kept the process moving forward. At the end of the day, my client felt that he had been listened to, understood, and dealt with in a fair manner.”
Judith has been called a “born mediator” and, early in her legal career, she recognized that mediation was the field in which she could make her greatest contribution. Judith was trained as a mediator in 1983, long before mediation became an accepted form of dispute resolution. From the first day of training, Judith knew she had found her calling. Two years later, in 1985, after 12 years of litigating, she left the practice of law to become a full-time mediator. Since that time she has mediated thousands of civil disputes. Judith remains passionate about her calling. Being a mediator fulfills Judith’s life-long commitment to bringing more peace to the world.
To every case, Judith brings a non-judgmental love of people, a keen intellect and a passion for resolving disputes. Because of her extraordinary skill, patience, compassion and ability to actively listen, Judith has developed a reputation as a “go to” mediator for the truly difficult cases – cases that other mediators are not equipped to handle. With a Masters degree in Psychology and experience as a psychotherapist, Judith can gain the trust of the most anxious and distrustful client.
Judith’s confidence that she can resolve every case is infectious. Parties feel her calming influence, her assurance the dispute will resolve, and her sincere interest in the details of their story. Oftentimes, the solution to the conflict will become apparent as Judith encourages both sides to talk on a deeper level about the facts of the situation, their feelings and their underlying interests.
“Soft on the people and hard on the problem,” may best describe Judith’s approach to mediation. Judith is a quick study of complex legal, business and property issues, as well as family dynamics. She is a master at designing a resolution process tailored specifically to that dispute, then tenaciously working all aspects of the case until it settles.
As a peacemaker, Judith has dedicated part of her practice to training others in the field. She has trained over two thousand people nationally and internationally, including lawyers, judges, corporate executives, government managers, social workers, therapists, students and educators. Judith is proud to have been a pioneer in the field of mediation and mediation training and is excited to keep learning with each new challenging dispute she settles.
