Mission of Conflict Management Institute

Judith Rubenstein of Rubenstein & Sorensen has offered Mediation Training for 20 years as the Director of Conflict Management Institute. The mission of Conflict Management Institute (CMI) is to reduce the cost of conflict in the workplace, businesses, families, and organizations, both in monetary and human terms. CMI provides training and consultation services of exceptional quality that help create workplaces where interpersonal conflict is easily identified, rapidly resolved, and used as an opportunity to create better teamwork and productivity. CMI also trains individuals who seek competency in conflict resolution and mediation skills for personal growth and professional expertise.
The following is a list of Mediation and Conflict Resolution Trainings offered to individuals, businesses, workplaces, organizations, and schools. Ms. Rubenstein will design a program for your specific needs if a specific training is not currently being offered. We provide what you need in:

Mediation Training – Basic, Level 1

Current Dates: May 12 -15, 2011 Santa Barbara CA

For over twenty years, Ms. Rubenstein has trained thousands of mediators in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Russia. She is a licensed attorney and therapist, bringing a unique blend of these professions to her mediation skills.

Her trainings are based on an integration of the theories of negotiation outlined in Getting to Yes by Fisher & Ury and the facilitative listening approach of Transformative Mediation outlined in The Promise of Mediation by Bush & Folger.
Beginning training is an interactive 30 hour professional training program utilizing lectures, demonstrations, and role plays with coaching designed for Attorneys, Business Professionals, Mental Health Professionals, Teachers, and Managers and in-House Mediators.

Cost: $1,450 Scholarship available for students, empoyees of non-profits ($700) and community mediators ($500).

Fee includes 100 page workbook and Certificate. CEU's available.

Mediation Training – Advanced Level 2 and 3

Current Dates: June 11-12, 2011 Level 2 Training

An interactive 15 hour advanced professional mediation program designed to take the individual mediator to the next level of competency using lecture, role playing, video feedback and coaching. Please call Judith at 805-637-6850.

Conflict Systems Design

Ms. Rubenstein was a member of the training design project funded by the Hewlett Foundation for the development of training for the U.S. Postal Service. This work formed the basis for the successful Postal Service Redress Mediation Program for which Ms. Rubenstein was a lead trainer nationwide. Most recently, Ms. Rubenstein designed an internal mediation program for the County of Santa Barbara. She currently is the consultant for the Santa Barbara County Employees Mediation Program where she trains and supervises a cadre of mediators. Reference: Theresa Duer 805-568-2822.

Coaching Managers, Investigation and Neutral Fact-finding, Organizational Needs Assessment

As a mediator since 1983, Judith brings vast experience of mediating all types of cases in a variety of settings. She can do fact-finding, analyze the conflict and recommend a strategy for resolution. She will also coach executives and managers in their conflict interventions.

The 15 Minute Mediation: Conflict Management Skills for Managers

Training designed to give supervisors and managers skills to manage conflict appropriately in the workplace with the 15 minute mediation. Can be designed as a one, two, or three day training.

Team Building/Communication Skills for a Harmonious Workplace

A one-day training for any level staff designed to give the basics in communication skills and conflict resolution for effective collaboration and team building.

How to Handle High Conflict or Difficult People in the Workplace

In this one-day training staff learn how to identify “High Conflict People” and how to handle them in the workplace. They also learn advanced communication skills such as reframing to help manage High Conflict People.
